Results of AEC Ballot at Murdoch

Posted on 08 September 2009 by notredame

There were two hurdles before the ballot could be declared a success – Firstly, more than 50% of people had to vote at all, then secondly, more than 50% of those who voted had to vote ‘Yes’.

Murdoch NTEU Members have cleared the first hurdle magnificently, attaining the highest ever return in this sort of ballot of University staff. Congratulations everyone!

Now to the questions on the ballot. All of these received an overwhelming ‘Yes’ vote in both the General Staff and Academic Ballots. Below are the individual percentages for the ‘Yes’ vote.

For General Staff:

Q1. A ban on the use of telephones. 85%
Q2. A ban on responding to emails and correspondence. 86%
Q3. A ban on the recording and transmission of results. 83%
Q4. 1-hour stoppages of work. 88%
Q5. 24-hour stoppages of work. 86%

For Academic Staff:

Q1. A ban on the use of telephones. 90%
Q2. A ban on responding to emails and correspondence. 88%
Q3. A ban on the recording and transmission of results. 92%
Q4. 1-hour stoppages of work. 90%
Q5. 24-hour stoppages of work. 91%

There has been quite a bit of media coverage of the results, including this article in the West Australian.

Ballot Results In – 90% Vote for 24-hour Stoppages.

Posted on 07 September 2009 by UQ

In the ballot completed on Friday 74.35% of NTEU members returned ballots to the Electoral Commission by the deadline. The ‘YES’ vote for approval of the various options for industrial action were as follows:

All 6 options are now available to members. Members will meet this Thursday 10 September to decide which, if any, option(s) to use. There is a National Day of Action next Wednesday 16 September and it is likely that a number of colleagues at various institutions where progress has not been sufficient will take industrial action on that day.
