Strike and work bans at ADFA@UNSW

Posted on 27 November 2009 by janemaze

UNSW@ADFA staff struck on 16 September along with their Kensington colleagues. Their purpose was to bring get UNSW management to engage seriously in bargaining towards an acceptable Fair Work Enterprise Agreement to replace the existing WorkChoices era agreement.

Sub-Branch Committee President Graham Freeman and Vice-President Neil Mudford then joined their colleagues on the UNSW NTEU Academics’ Bargaining team in imposing work bans on forwarding exam results on 26 October.

UNSW made the most extreme response possible by standing Graham, Neil and the others down for the day and instructing them to do no UNSW work. This meant they were unavailable to assist students working on end of year assessments and exam preparation.

Bans on working overtime or beyond normal hours on any day are now in place indefinitely at UNSW@ADFA, along with the Kensington campus. All members are asked not to work overtime or beyond your normal hours.

Please call the ACT Division Office at 6125 2043 or the UNSW Branch at 9385 2479 if you would like further information.

ADFA staff to strike for 24 hours on Sept 16

Posted on 15 September 2009 by Paul Clifton

Staff of the University of New South Wales at the Australian Defence Forces Academy (UNSW@ ADFA) will strike for one day this Wednesday 16 September.

There will be a picket line at the main gate on Northcott Drive from 7.30 to 10.00 am.

‘NTEU members have voted to strike because of the pitiful lack of progress in enterprise bargaining with UNSW management’ said Dr Graham Freeman, ADFA President of the National Tertiary Education Union.

‘After five months of bargaining at a snail’s pace, management are still saying they would prefer to roll over the old agreements – the Academic Agreement and the General Staff Agreement.

‘We are seeking restoration of the conditions taken from us under WorkChoices, conditions such as job security, consultation with staff on changes, redundancy and outsourcing.  We are angry that the university is not taking our claims seriously and give us back fair work agreements.’ said Dr Freeman.
