The NTEU advises staff not to attend PDR training sessions and not to participate in the PDR program.
The PDR program contravenes the current Enterprise Agreement which binds the University and all its staff.
The PDR is invasive, computerised, intimidating, time-consuming and riddled with internal contradictions and flaws. It is based on a computer model which was designed for profit-making corporations in the USA. It is inappropriate for universities. The PDR system even denies staff who feel wronged by it access to the University’s grievance appeal procedures.
Meetings of NTEU members at Swinburne have expressed their strong opposition to the PDR program proposed by Swinburne management. There is no evidence that such schemes actually improve performance (however defined), even in the literature that the University itself cited.
The Union has offered to negotiate a Staff Appraisal system that has the confidence and support of staff for the next collective agreement, but University management have not yet come to the table on this issue.
For these reasons the NTEU says staff should boycott the PDR.
