Bush Fire Appeal

Posted on 09 February 2009 by atoshamccaw

To all NTEU members and all staff working within Victorian Tertiary Education,

Over the last few days the fires that have raged over regional Victoria have had a devastating effect on all communities.

Many of us have colleagues, family and friends who have been directly affected through loss of life, family, or property. Many will also have been involved in the huge effort of fighting the fires and assisting the affected communities.

A number of Universities, TAFEs and Community Education Centres have campuses in the areas affected: the Churchill Campus of Monash University, Central Gippsland TAFE, Bendigo TAFE, the Bendigo Campus of La Trobe University, Kinglake Ranges Neighbourhood House and Flowerdale Community House, to name just some of the immediately identifiable locations.

In these extraordinary times, the NTEU encourages all staff, union member or not, to consider how we may help our colleagues in our own and other educational institutions.

The NTEU will be sending advice over the next few days about the most effective forms of assistance that you may provide. However, in the short run the most effective assistance that can be made is through financial donations and through giving blood.

Assistance Details

Australian Red Cross (www.redcross.org.au):

Bushfire Appeal Fund 1800 811 700

Donate Blood www.donateblood.com.au

NAB Bushfire Relief Fund 136 622

Our thoughts go out to all those affected, and our collective thanks go to those who continue to fight the fires and support the affected communities.

Yours sincerely

Matthew McGowan
Secretary
NTEU Victorian Division
